Been thinking a lot about change, and about working when you aren’t “working”. A few weeks ago I heard an agent speak about actor development and what I’ve been calling “playing the long game”, a golf metaphor. It’s not about a single shot made or missed, it’s about all 18 holes; or, in this case, the rest of my life. It’s about what an actor does between projects. The classes they take and the skills they learn; but also the way they keep themselves calm and collected when they’re not absorbed in a shoot.
I spent much of the fall and all of January working with The Actor’s Project and on a yet-to-be-disclosed web project (that I’m super excited about). By the end of last week I was completely exhausted, and took this week to recharge, reaffirm my goals for the year, and start thinking about where I’m headed. Part of that thinking was about change. And habit. And variety. And what I do when I’m not on set.
I mentioned in my last post the changes I’m making in my body; but this is about the changes I’m making to my mind and my creative energy. To that end I’m toying with the idea of Something New. That is, trying something new every day. I’ve added a new category and I want to keep track of my ideas, what I’ve done, and where I’m headed.
My goals for this project:
- 365 days of new stuff
- Living with a more focused intention
- More regular writing & blogging about little things
The more I think about it the more I like the idea – but the more I think about it the more I recognize in myself the inability to finish what I start. In all honestly, it’s one of the things I dislike most about myself ~ so this is a start toward changing it.
Update: Started a bucket list to get me moving.
